The World of the Whiskerkin
The Whiskerkin are an intelligent, lab-created rodent species with unstable genetics, rapid evolution, and a history shaped by captivity, rebellion, and uncertain freedom.
The White Place
The Whiskerkin were born in a world of endless white walls and bright lights. This was the only reality they knew. Their lives were dictated by the beings they called the White Coats.
- Food was controlled
- Bonding and breeding were assigned
- Movement was confined
- Life and death were decided for them
Over time, their intelligence grew. Awareness brought questions — and questions led to rebellion.
The Great Escape
Driven by instinct and hope, more than half the Whiskerkin fled their enclosures in a desperate escape. They ran through terrifying, unfamiliar territory while being chased by White Coats and strange flying machines. Many were captured or lost, but the survivors pressed on.
At last, they found refuge through a crumbling tunnel that opened into a place unlike anything they had ever seen.
The Sanctuary
Beyond the tunnel lay a hidden oasis of color, plant life, water, and open space. The Whiskerkin named it The Sanctuary.
Here, they began learning how to live without constant control — forming societies, beliefs, and cultures of their own.
The Hidden Truth
Unknown to the Whiskerkin, the Sanctuary is actually a massive enclosed research habitat created by Veilstone Laboratory.
Their escape was not a failure — it was the next phase of an experiment involving the species Bicaudatus musculus. The White Coats continue to observe from afar, studying how their creations evolve when they believe they are free.
Two Worlds
Lab-Dwelling Whiskerkin
- Live under strict control
- Frequently subjected to experimentation
- Familiar with White Coat presence
Sanctuary Whiskerkin
- Form Mischiefs and cultures
- Explore and adapt to their environment
- Believe they are truly free
Mischiefs
Mischiefs are organized social groups formed by Whiskerkin. Each has its own identity, beliefs, traditions, and aesthetics. New Mischiefs can be player-created with staff approval.
Biology & Growth
- Always rodent-like in form
- Always have two tails
- Extremely mutation-prone
- Rapid physical growth, slower mental maturity
Reproduction
Whiskerkin reproduce through a unique bonding ritual involving a circular dance and intertwined tails. A biological capsule forms, containing developing young that emerge as juveniles within days.
Young mature physically within weeks, but mental development continues for years.
The Wise Ones
Rare Whiskerkin undergo a dramatic transformation known as The Awakening, becoming revered figures called Wise Ones or Elders.
- Grow significantly larger
- Develop a third eye
- Gain telepathic or telekinetic abilities
- Often serve as leaders and guides
The process is painful and mysterious, believed to be triggered by extreme mental development. Wise Ones are rare and considered deeply important to Whiskerkin society.
